[Alfa] Selespeed problem resolved

Got response from one guy who successful solved Selespeed problem, probably this will help you also...

Hi,
I am the owner of a 2001 147 Selespeed bought on March 2002 with 746 km. For me the problems with the selespeed started 4 (four) days after I had the car in my hands: during the night. The car stopped 2 mt before a level crossing and only the reverse gear was working!!!! The day after, I contacted immediately the dealer and the answer was: "we never had problems with selespeed before"...... I became a great friend of the dealer cause every 4-500 km I was there with always the same problem: the gear slip into neutral and no more possibility to have any gear!!!!! After 5 times in the garage of my "FRIEND" (with almost no results), I decided to look for the ALFA Inspector of my zone and to ask him to do something, also because the car was still in the warranty period. I spoke also with some engineers in Pomigliano d'Arco (where the 147 is developed and build) and after a while (3 weeks) I had my car back and since then nothing of wrong happen. The information that I had from the Alfa's engineers about the problems of the 2002 selespeed were:

1) The cable connecting the actuator driver to the hydraulic pump was defective and was substituted (The problem of the cable is caused by the material which the cable is build!!!)

2) The software of 2001 was upgraded to the release of 2003.

Now I'm fully satisfied of the selespeed, but it was really hard to contact the right people capable to solve the problems of the gear.

Regards
Daniele

Hi, I have a 2002 147. Mine keeps jumping out of city mode into semi manual mode. Could you tell me how you contacted the developers in Italy. I can't seem to find any contact details. The Alfa garage can find nothing wrong with my car so I really need to speak to an expert.

jason_forshaw@hotmail.com

thanks
Jason

Dean Your problem is the hydraulic pump. sounds like the motor needs brushes, or the motor relay needs replacing.

PRPdesigns2000@yahoo.com.au you need a new accumulator on the actuator.

Jason foreshaw you sounds like you need a software upgrade to the 2003 version

If he calls himself anonymous and wants you to email him ???? … well, i wouldn't.
I have a couple of Alfas, a 156 manual and a GT selespeed, lack of a capital intended.
The GT seldom goes into reverse when it has been driven, sometimes won't go on start up either. Other times the whole caboodle goes into city mode and won't come out, not matter how much I sit there begging and pleading, tears running down my face.
Believe me when I say I can see how some cars get battered wife syndrome .. or whatever it is called when you take your hammer, a hammer that HAS ALWAYS WORKED WELL, and smash it into every sensitive place on the work of art that it is an Alfa GT.
If anyone has any ideas of a fix that I, as a carpenter, could do, I promise karma will make your life a little better.
Living in New Zealand means that the clever people that know Alfas through and through are 24578 kilometres away, that's about a million in old school measurements.
You can send me emails if you like, I am no scammer. My name is William Llewellyn, my email is alfaromeobits @ gmail.com - I got that email years ago when my 156 V6 that popped a camshaft drive belt, forcing me to sell it as parts to try and recoup some of my hard earned money.
